Work Description

After studying under dancer Min Tanaka and beginning his career as a performer, Ushijima began to create three-dimensional works, utilizing the structures of playground equipment, with which it is possible to physically interact. Among them is this work, in which the Atomic Bomb Dome is formed from steel pipe used for jungle gyms. It is part of the Nrp series, conceived as structures that can be reconfigured by reassembling their parts, and was transformed during a workshop for children conducted by the artist in which they altered it freely according to their own ideas. This version of the Atomic Bomb Dome is one that people can sense, relate to, and at times even modify with their own bodies.
