Work Description

Kano began experimenting with copperplate printing on his own at the age of 19. From making his own paints to developing new techniques, his insatiable inquisitiveness led him to become a leading figure in the postwar Japanese art world. This work, produced using an original technique based on decalcomania (image transfer), features a gradation with a sense of fluidity and shimmering color so rich that it is hard to believe it is an intaglio print. Extinction and rebirth, death and resurrection: combined with the frame-by-frame composition, the images appear to convey the very essence of our world, in a constant state of flux between light and darkness.
